Earth Day Offerings at Palatine Park:

Farmer’s Market Seed Starting

Plant seeds that help the creatures that help us all in reused egg cartons. All Supplies will be provided.

Earth Day Story Hour with Gabe (11-2)

The library will be hosting an Earth Day-themed Story Hour and activity under the Pavilion.

Battery Recycling with the Library

Drop off your used single-use batteries with library staff at the park on Earth Day and then at the library all month long. Local Girl Scouts Troop 5574 will help to safety tape the ends and transport them to The Ozone to send along to Call2Reycle for responsible recycling.

American Legion Flag Retirement

Accepting used American flags for proper retirement and to keep them out of landfills.

Invasive Species Removal from the Palatine Park Trail

Join landscape architect and native species expert, Barbara Hughey, and the Scouts on the Palatine Park Lake Trail for a community invasive species pull. Learn which plants support the native ecosystem and which may harm it. Wear sturdy shoes and bring loppers or a camp saw if you’ve got them!

Energy-Saving Tips and Gifts from Sustainable Germantown

We will be there with energy-saving tips and our newly updated Germantown Waste Guides. We’ll also be giving some prizes away that will help reduce energy use at home.

Face Painting with the Germantown Park Commission

The Germantown Park Commission welcomes local artist Sasha Pearl to paint faces for kids of all ages. President Molly McClarnon will be there to talk to anyone interested in joining the effort to continue and expand parks programming.

Information and Sign-up with the Roe Jan Watershed Community

Roe Jan Watershed Community will be there to discuss activities around the stream to monitor and enhance the Roeliff Jansen Kill, an important tributary of the Hudson River that runs through our town. They’ll be signing folks up for their newsletter and for water sampling this season. Volunteers for sampling are greatly needed! 

Popcorn from Gaskins

Gaskins will be providing popcorn to snack on as make your way through the event.
